Baby T-Shirt Repurposing

1:24 PM

When you have a kid, you end up with a lot of clothes that will only last a month or so (at best).  Most of her clothes I am happy to give away as hand-me-downs, but sometimes I feel a little cheated when I have a really cute top, and I don't get anywhere near enough wear out of it.  For example, I bought her a Canada Day shirt last year that was too big at the time, but only fit for a few months this past winter.

She's entirely too big for baby bodysuits now, so this shirt was kind of fail purchase on my part (chalk it up to being a first time Mom).  I didn't want to lose out completely, because it is kind of cute, so I re-purposed it:

Step 1: cut out design in the shape of a triangle - roughly.  Try to make sure that the design you want to keep is mostly centred.

Sew around the outside edge with right sides together, leaving an opening at both top corners.  I cut the top corners flat.  Then turn right side out and press.

Yes, my sewing machine is like 40+ years old.  I like it ;)  Next, take your two peices, thread the ends of the braid into the openings at the top corners to desired length.  I just fed the excess into the flap rather than cut it off so that I can adjust the size as my little one grows.

Top stitch across the edges where the braid attaches, and you're done!
